Fantastic Place

Came here for a 5 day October break, never been to Algarve before and wasn't sure what to expect. After a good 2 1/2 hour flight from Birmingham and a 30 min taxi ride we arrived at the Holiday Inn Algarve.
Location is honestly about as good as you can get, as close to the beach as can be and the beach itself is superb, massive long and wide and super clean, sea was a nice temperature for a swim, pretty good for time of year.
The hotel is clean and tidy, carpets everywhere rather than tiled floors and caters mostly for the retired folk so no entertainment like parrots or jugglers !
We stayed b&b breakfast was very good, drinks in the bar typical holiday inn bit pricey, (if you are not All inclusive and pay for drinks make sure you get Branded not the local spirits).
The local area is very nice, a small old fishing village, loads of restaurants and cafe bars even at the end of season we found easy to find a lot.
Go on a boat trip to the caves €20 for about an hour very special
Go to the sand sculpture place as well also very good
Go to the beach mid morning and see the fishermen come in with the days catch.
Room tip definitely pay for a sea view and leave your patio door open at night as the sound of the waves are amazing.
Free safe, Tea and Coffee, Fridge and Free Wifi if you sign up to IHG membership just adds to a very nice stay at a very nice hotel in a very nice place.
I would go back for sure and will do.

St.Martin's Day

St.Martin's Day - Bar Boa Vista - 9.00pm
Come and celebrate with us on Friday 11th November 2016 at the Holiday Inn Algarve, at 9.00 pm in the Boa Vista Bar with the traditional singing group «Milho Verde»
And taste the traditional Chestnuts and Jeropiga !!
3 Euros per person to inculde a glass of Jeropiga and 6 chestnuts

According to the story, as a soldier, when arriving near the gates of the French city Amiens, Saint Martin cut off half of his cloak in order to offer it to a beggar. As he faced a long ride in a freezing weather, the dark clouds cleared away and the sun shone so intensely that the frost melted away. Such weather was rare for early November, so was credited to God's intervention.

The phenomenon of a sunny break to the chilly weather on Saint Martin's Day (11th November) is called «Verão de São Martinho» (Saint Martin's Summer) in honour of the cloak legend.

In Portugal, where the Saint's day is celebrated across the country, it is common for people to gather around the fire in groups called «magustos», where they typically eat roasted chestnuts and drink wine, «jeropiga» (a drink made of grape-must and firewater) and aguapé (a sort of weak and watered-down wine).
