I booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary and I have to say it turned out to be an excellent choice, I loved everything about this hotel. Armacao de Pera is a beautiful place and the Holiday Inn is in an excellent location to explore the area. It is situated right on the beach at the end of a pedestrian area which is lined with shops, restaurants and bars and leads directly in to the old town. It‘s a five minute walk from the hotel to the old town where you will find plenty of bars and restaurants.
We stayed in room 559 which is a sea view room but as it is a corner room you get the advantage of an extra Juliet balcony as well as the standard balcony, it also seemed slightly larger than the other standard rooms. The views are fantastic with the room looking directly on to the beach but also overlooking the shops, bars and cafes towards the old town. The rooms like the rest of the hotel is kept spotlessly clean and are serviced every day, they are also well equipped with a safe, iron and ironing board, fridge, plus tea and coffee making facilities. All the rooms are en suite and toiletries are provided, the towels are replaced daily if required.
The restaurant is just through the reception area and has lovely sea views, all the meals are buffet style and there is a wide variety of food to suit most tastes. There are plenty of hot and cold options and the food was of a high standard. The pool area is situated just below the restaurant and always had plenty of empty sun loungers, there are quite a few terraces which also have plenty of sun loungers so it never seemed crowded. The pool area and all the terraces over look the beach and have great sea views.
All the staff were excellent, they were polite and helpful. The reception staff were more than happy to provide us with bus timetables and recommend bars and restaurants. Check in and checkout were seamless, we arrived before the check in time but our room had already been prepared so we were able to go straight up. As I’ve already mentioned, the service at this hotel was outstanding and I would definitely stay there again, I would also be happy to recommend this hotel to other travellers.
Just a few tips for anyone who might be interested. There is a bus that runs from Albufeira up the coast, just ask at the reception desk and they will provide you with a route map and timetable. It costs €4.80 to Portimao and the same to Albufeira, a taxi to the same destinations is around €25.00 each way.
There is wifi throughout the hotel and you get an hour free but to gain access to it free 24/7 you have to sign up to the hotels reward card. Just ask at reception and they will give you a form to fill out, once you have signed up you will be provided with a code, each code will work on two devices but if you need more the reception staff will supply them without having to fill out anymore forms.
We stumbled across what we thought was the best restaurant in town. Rocha da Palha is situated right on the beach and has the best food we tasted while in Armacao de Pera, it was also reasonably priced. The aspect from the front is amazing but I would recommend that you call in and reserve your table as it was always busy, there is a beach bar at the restaurant which is perfect for pre/post drinks.
I would recommend that you pay a little extra for a sea view room as the ones on the back don’t have the best of views, I personally prefer an upper floor room as the views are better and there is no noise from the beach. There are two lifts so access isn’t a problem.
I hope you enjoy staying at the Holiday Inn, I loved this place.
