New Years Day Swim for Shoes

We will be "swimming for shoes" again on 1st January, 2013..

Your opportunity to SWIM FOR SHOES where you can have a dip in the Atlantic Ocean and help to raise money for children here who are in need of new shoes.

On New Years Day at 11.00 a.m. on the beach at Armação de Pêra in front of the Holiday Inn Algarve
...
All you need to do is turn up with swimwear, towel and go in for a full swim or just a paddle – the choice is yours as long as part of you gets wet ! Then everyone who takes part can recover in the Holiday Inn Bar and enjoy a warming hot chocolate.

Buying shoes for the children who are in care is an ongoing expense and we want to help as many as possible start 2013 with a new pair of shoes

Adults and children are all welcome to take part on the understanding that you do so at your own risk. If you have family and friends staying over the festive season it will certainly be something different to do!

As this is a charity event we will gratefully accept all donations offered

Congratulations and Thank You

Many congratulations and thanks to all those who participated in the Annual Swim for Shoes on Christmas Day on Armação de Pêra beach in front of the Holiday Inn Algarve either by paddling or getting totally immersed in the sea !

More than 150 people were on the beach to take part in and/or see the Christmas Day "Swim for Shoes"  and help to raise more than 750 Euros to buy new shoes for children in an Algarve Orphanage.

As one swimmer said it was not only a good way to raise funds for charity, but also a fun way to spend Christmas Morning.

Father Christmas was well represented - who after singing "We wish you a Merry Christmas" and "A Todos um Bom Natal" ran down to the waiting sea.

Adding to the excitement, were the film crew from TVI - who filmed the whole event and interviewed a number of participants. This brought a lot of national attention to the event when it was shown on their News Programme. http://www.tvi.iol.pt/videos/13770453 Minute: 20.54

The money will be going to buy shoes during the year for the teenagers at A Gaivota, Santa Casa in Albufeira. Each child at school needs a pair of trainers and plimsolls and the excellent amount raised means that all the teenagers will be fully kitted out.

Certificates were awarded to all those who got wet and everyone enjoyed a "Chocolate Bomba" in the Holiday Inn Algarve bar afterwards.

A big thank you to everyone who participated. - In order to raise more funds - there is another "Swim for Shoes" on 1st January at 11.00am - just the way to recover from the festivities of New Years Eve - welcome in 2013 by paddling or swimming in the Atlantic Ocean - what an achievement ! Please join us - Pyjamas Optional.

The Wolf and the Sorceress
Nemi is not a normal girl. Found by a woodsman and saved from the hungry jaws of a wolf, she is raised by the childless couple, Taliena and Jacob Hunter.

The couple soon realise that their new daughter has special powers, and that all their lives would be in danger, if her secret were found out. An amulet placed upon the child’s arm by her birth mother has the charms to protect her, but she will need guidance to use her gift of sorcery if she is to survive.

Ilanthia was the captain of a prison ship thrown 100,000 light years from her own galaxy during a cosmic storm, and had to make the heart wrenching decision to send her new born child away for its safety when her ship crash landed on an alien planet, 15th Century Earth.

One prisoner, Tobyn, also has the power of sorcery and threatened to kill the Warden and her child. Having been thwarted and captured initially by Ilanthia, Tobyn upon escaping his cell, allows Ilanthia to live, but promises to find and kill the child, then return to kill Ilanthia herself.

Nemi eventually meets the sorcerer Tobyn in the castle and thinks she has defeated him in the following battle using her own powers of sorcery, but Tobyn decides to run away and try another day.

In the second half of the story, Nemi has to win her fight all over again against the sorcerer who has undertaken a new brutal identity. She has with her, a powerful timber wolf and a golden eagle, both of which have pledged their help to this young girl.

Brian P Pemberton

Brian P Pemberton was born in England, North London, in 1946. He is now retired, living in Portugal with six cats that adopted him when they were kittens, but this story was brought to life fifteen years ago and first published in 2006.The basis of the story was due to two young girls in his amateur dramatic group who asked for a really gruesome, horrible story with them as the heroines. Having written an eighteen page story for them, he saw a picture of an American Indian girl next to a wolf and that is where the Wolf and the Sorceress began for real. It has had a lot of changes from the first draft, but now this re-launch of the book has had additional text added to clarify the young heroine’s early days of learning. There are six stories planned that follow Nemi and the friends she makes along her often perilous journey, until she finally understands her destiny. The first and second book are now available on Kindle and on www.amazon.co.uk & www.amazon.com
