TripAdvisor - “On the beach”

“On the beach”
4 of 5 starsReviewed 14 September 2012
This hotel sits right on the beautiful beach at Armacao which stretches for miles, excellent for an early morning walk. The hotel (was Hotel Garbe) is situated on the promenade just minutes walk into the town. The public rooms are bright and spacious looking out over the sea. Nice pool surrounded by sun terraces, with a small bar for drinks and snacks. The superior rooms are well furnished and a good size, standard rooms somewhat smaller but adequate. Dining room is large and bright with a terrace for those who enjoy al fresco eating. A very good Indian restaurant is attached to the dining room (Raj). Breakfast can be a very substantial meal if so required.

There are many very good local restaurants near the hotel serving excellent locally caught fish. Just across the promenade is a very good coffee shop which serves beautiful pastries (very waist enlarging) and light meals.

Good bus serve to Albufaira and Portimoa. Rialway station for trians to other parts of the Algarve is a taxi ride away. For golfers there are lots of courses nearby, hotel can make arrangements.

Room Tip: Have sea facing rooms, quiet and sunny most of the day.

TripAdvisor - “Great Hotel, great break, great location”

Reviewed September 6, 2012

I stayed at the Holiday Inn, Algarve at the end of July with my wife and 5 year old daughter for four nights. The hotel is in a great location right on the beach and very close proximity to the bars and restaurants on the promenade. It is also only a 30 minute drive from Faro airport.

Our room was really spacious with a lovely big bed, large bathroom and sea view. The hotel was very clean with very attentive and friendly staff. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and the Buffett dinner was also good. My wife had the Indian food one night which she said was excellent.
The hotel pool although not big was very relaxing with sunbeds and pool bar. It was safe enough to let my daughter play in there on her own.

The resaurant has a great setting in the evening if you want to sit outside. You can look over the sea and look up and down the beach. There is a lovely big bar in the hotel which unfortunately is not made full use of. It overlooks the sea and has plenty of seating with tables. More could be made of this with perhaps some evening entertainment.

The beach is wonderful. It is sandy and has some water sports if you want them. It does get busy though during peak season. There is no need to take beach towels with you as you can get clean beach towels every day from reception.

We had a great time staying here and will be returning again next year.
