“Seldom in the habit of returning to the same place, however....”

Trip Advisor - Reviewed March 2012

It's a big world out there and I for one am keen to see as much of it as I can and am seldom in the habit of returning to the same palce twice. However, Hotel Garbe/Holiday Inn Algarve is so beautifully and uniquely situated that it demands a second look. In fact, we've visited it 3 out of the 4 last years. Usually in Sept, just outside peak season which provides us with a pre-winter tonic, the ability to still enjoy the sun + sea and move about the town with relative ease in the evenings.

Location, location, location is the oft heard mantra regarding property, however it is just as apt for this hotel. Situated right on a beautiful sandy beach with direct access, it is an idylic location. I'd recommend a sea view room to take full advantage of this glorious location every time.

A perfect dilema awaits you, should you head for the pool or the sea, why not have the best of both worlds and sit by the pool with cocktails and then take a short stroll to the beach, cool off in the sea and then return poolside with a shower en route... just perfect! Parasols and loungers are available on the beach but be prepared to pay for the privilege.

We have only ever opted for Bed & Breakfast. So are unable to comment on lunch or dinner. The rationale behind this is twofold. Breakfast choice is superb and comprehensive catering for every taste. You can really eat your fill al fresco, overlooking the sea and it usually sets us up until we wander down to one of the beach cafes on the sand and grab a snack mid-day onwards. Whilst dinner may then be had at one of several superb value for money restaurants just a short stroll away. Fish dishes are not only superb, but value-for-money with sardines a speciality if you like. There's a curry restaurant attached to the hotel, if that's you prefer - I can't vouch for it personally.

The town beyond the seafront isn't that appealing with it's numerous androgenous high rise blocks, but stick to the old town and waterfront and it's easy on the eye.

Last time 2011 we stayed in a ground floor sea-facing apartment and we could come and go as we pleased in beachwear. We weren't too sure about security, sleeping with the window ajar, but the sound of the waves lapping the shoreline was too good to resist and we never experienced a problem.

One night we were treated to a pretty impressive array of thunder and lightning whilst sat sipping our own G&T's, the door ajar enjoying the son et lumiere!Fabulous memories, that as yet haven't become jaded.

Tip:- Arrange your own taxi directly via the internet just before you go and you won't have to suffer the torment of a shuttle bus and by doing it online direct, it isn't that expensive.

Room Tip: Sea facing everytime. Some rooms go straight onto the pool terraces if that's of interest to yo...
