Algarve Mediterranean Garden – HAPIMAG
The Algarve section of The Mediterranean Garden Society invites you to join us to celebrate midsummer at the Algarve Mediterranean Garden at the Hapimag resort, Albufeira. This garden is a unique showcase for the use of native plants on a large scale and is developing into a remarkable resource for all gardeners wishing to learn more about bringing nature into their gardens. In previous visits we have been able to follow the development and planting of this unique and beautiful garden. This Garden Open Day will include illustrated talks by the Landscape Architect and designer of the garden, Claudia Schwarzer and also Biologist, Udo Schwarzer together with guided tours of the garden. Hapimag Gardens Manager, Marilyn Kahan, will also take a group around the garden and will explain the practical management techniques for constructing and maintaining the garden. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions.
We will have a special dinner menu concentrating on the flavours and aromas of the Mediterranean followed by a magnificent theatre show based on the life of an olive tree through the year. Members of the MGS Algarve Group will have an information stand. Join us to celebrate Midsummer and meet others interested in welcoming nature into their gardens.
Midsummer Algarve Garden Open Day
2pm: Welcome - meet at the bar, with coffee/tea
2.30-3.15pm: Presentation “Rock Roses of the Algarve (Cistus)” by Claudia Schwarzer (Break, 30 mins, question/answers)
3.45pm - 4.30pm: Presentation "Flower Professionals: Butterflies of the Algarve" by Udo Schwarzer (Break, 30 mins, question/answers)
5pm-6.30pm: Guided walk round garden – Marilyn Kahan, Gardens Manager will talk about the construction and establishment of a sustainable garden, Claudia & Udo Schwarzer will talk about the botany and biodiversity in the garden.
6.30pm onwards: Mediterranean Herb Aromas - Special restaurant dinner menu
9.30pm: "My Wonderful Olive Tree" theatre show in English - music, fun and flowers !
Price per person: €25
Overnight stay: €50 per fully equipped apartment, per night (2 - 4 people, 2 - bedroom apartment)
