The odd couple
A one-act comic play ‘Angels’ Feathers’ is about to be staged at the Raj Restaurant, Holiday Inn, Armação de Pêra. Written by Algarve playwright, Nicky Moran.
The dreamlike plot is full of humour and well grounded by two down to earth performances. The play’s author takes the lead roll alongside Dutch actor, Thomas Hartmann playing the part of an insomniac in charge of a multi-national company.
An unlikely meeting between the pair provides a hilarious opening. The poor old woman, whose short-term memory is failing, has no difficulty recalling her deceased husband and his problems with water retention after drinking 20 pints of beer! Surprisingly, as the couple get to know each other, the woman has valuable advice to offer the neurotic man and they come to share a common goal.
Tickets for a three-course Indian meal with wine, coffee and show €30

Thanks again for making our stay over Christmas & New Year so enjoyable! We had a delightful room with a great view, & it was good to see how nice the refurbished rooms were. It was also good to see that the staff has barely changed, we met "old" friends in every department & made a few new ones. We certainly appreciated the service & attention that has carried on from the dear old Garbe.
The golf & hire car arrangements were once again simple & efficient, & many thanks for the last minute changes you made to ensure we avoided the odd inclement day. We played 5 dry rounds on some of our usual courses. Salgados is becoming a favourite, followed by Silves which is always a challenge. We look forward to returning soon, as it's always a delight to see you all as well as the sunshine.

The Angels Theatre Group performed their Christmas Cracker Show for one night only, to a large and enthusiastic audience, most of whom had arrived sporting festive head-wear !
The Holiday Inn supplied a full buffet with wine.
The angels on the Tombola tree were made specially by the Junior pupils of The Colegio International de Vilamoura.
The evening started in traditional style with the Salvation Army Band and Singers from Sao Bras de Alportal, ensuring everyone entered into the Festive Spirit.
From then onwards the audience was treated to a spectacle of poems and songs, that included Santa,Elves,a Toy Soldier,a Snowman,Angels ,a Nativity play and children from the Algarve Juniors, all introduced by the Fairy Queen played by Marion Griffiths.
Left to right: Marion Griffiths, Capt Kent Ringborne, Joy Behennah
The Angels costumes were made by Andrena Sharpe.
The audience were encouraged to sing-a-long to carols and pick festive jokes out of the large Christmas cracker. The Grand Finale, was The Twelve Days of Christmas. Each table was designated a “day” and competed to loud and boisterous help from the cast to give the best and loudest chorus. The live music was provided by Mary Legg on the piano.
The Angels Theatre Group entertain for Charity. Their current beneficiary is Centre Algarve. This is a project to supply holiday accommodation for people with Special Needs. The Angels are happy to announce that they are now in a position to spend 5,000 euros on the Centre.
The hotel was fine. We had views over the sea and beach which were well worth paying extra for. The recently updated room was clean and fresh with a huge wardrobe. The TV was newish yet there were only 2 English channels available.
The bar overlooks the beach and the superb staff were very accommodating (there is free afternoon tea and cakes, that wasn't advertised but very welcome). The breakfast was, as other comments mention, very good.
We stayed over the Christmas period and had hoped for a relaxing week. We were not disappointed, as the few guests that were at the hotel were, shall we say, more mature. The town itself is odd. Many, many empty high-rises tower over the town of traditional touristy bars and restaurants.
The walk on the beach from the hotel to the fishermens huts is superb and the sandy beach is lovely. The updated promenade is lovely too, with sealife mosaics and clever lighting.
We would go back to the hotel to see how Holiday Inn have continued to improve things (hopefully the outside are, pool etc), but we wouldn't stay in the town!
