Holiday Inn Algarve enjoys success with British GT team
Last weekend saw the Holiday Inn Algarve join-up with leading sportscar racing team Sumo Power GT for round seven of the spectacular FIA GT1 World Championship at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve near Portimaô. And, following an impressive performance, the team won the first of the weekend’s two races. In advance of the race-weekend, Holiday Inn Algarve formed an association with Sumo Power GT, who are the only UK based team competing in the world’s number-one racing series for iconic supercars. In return for its support, the team proudly displayed the Hotel’s logos on the front of its two, 600bhp, V8-engined, Nissan GT-Rs.
A faultless performance from second on the grid was enough to secure the first victory of the season for drivers Michael Krumm (Germany) and Peter Dumbreck (Banbury), with team-mates Warren Hughes (Newcastle) and Jamie Campbell-Walter (London) finishing eighth. Then, after starting form pole position for the second race, a faulty air-gun delayed Krumm and Dumbreck during their pit-stop, but they fought back through the field to finish fourth. Hughes and Campbell-Walter were not so fortunate and had to retire after being hit by another car.
“We were delighted to be associated with one of the UK’s leading GT teams”, said Vicki Good, Sales Manager for Holiday Inn Algarve. “Some of our Management were invited to join the team for the race meeting and I understand they had a great time. I am also pleased to report that the team enjoyed their stay at our hotel, particularly because of its beach location. I therefore look forward to welcoming them back next year.”
The Sumo Power GT team has now returned to its headquarters in Rye, East Sussex, to prepare for eighth round of the World GT1 Championship at the Navarra circuit in Northern Spain on 23rd & 24th October.
