Recipes from the Algarve - Pudim Flan

We often get asked for recipes for one of the dishes that we serve in our restaurant. The traditional Pudim Flan - Creme Caramel is one of the most popular.

Pudim Flan
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 vanilla pod
¼ litre milk

Whisk one tablespoon of sugar and the eggs to a frothy consistency. On a very low heat, gently stir this into luke warm milk. Cut the vanilla pod open and scrape out the inside. Add this to the cream. In a separate pot, melt the remaining sugar and stir continuously until brown. Pour the caramel into four small pastry moulds and top up with the egg mixture. Place in a bowl with hot water and cook very carefully for 30 minutes. Remember not to allow the water to boil and splash into the moulds. Remove the moulds and stand to cool. Just before turning them out, dip them briefly into hot water,

The FIA GT Championship is one of the most competitive championships in Grand Touring cars worldwide, regardless of the fact that the majority of the races take place in Europe. The championship is composed exclusively of private teams that prepare cars as diverse as Porsche, Saleen, Corvette, among others. The battle for victory is always extremely competitive especially in endurance races like these, where the slightest slip-up can make the difference. Free admission for children under 12 years old if accompanied by an adult.

“fantastic location, lovely staff nothing too much trouble .”

Review from Trip Advisor

Aug 20, 2010 Trip type: Family stayed for a week, have been here many times, was a bit worried when we were told it had changed to holiday inn, but everything was the same , same freindly staff and we loved it. i have to say we booked a double room with an extra bed and the basic room is very small, we didnt realise this because all the other times we have booked they have so nicely given us a bigger room, when we explained this at reception they moved us to a bigger room on the saturday, thankyou for that. we will book again but make sure we book a bigger room from the offset. fantastic service and i just love this place hence i will be returning again, recommend to young and old.

Thank you for writing

What can we say but thank you, yet again, to all the staff of The Garbe (it will always be The Garbe to us after all the years we have been coming) for making our too-short-a-stay last month so enjoyable.

It was, and always is, so lovely to see you all again - you make us so genuinely welcome and, as such, we have always regarded you all as our friends on the Algarve. You were so busy with the changeover when we were there - we hope things are settling down a bit now for you. I must admit we were a little disappointed that you didn't have a BBQ night as we have so enjoyed it in previous years - the perfect setting of your terrace on a beautiful warm evening. So saying, one of the photographs I took this year was taken from the terrace after dark using special settings on the camera to get a good picture. I am very pleased with the result, so much so that I thought you might like to see it too - I have attached it for you.

We were very impressed with all the improvements around town though one, the water feature in front of the church, could have been more spectacular.

Once again thank you for everything. We're really looking forward to staying with you next year when, hopefully, all your rooms have been refurbished to the high standard we saw whilst we were there.

Best Regards to you all,
Reg and Lorna

Every year, since 1980, when it was held for the first time, FATACIL – the Lagoa Handicraft, Tourism, Agriculture, Trade and Industry Fair – brings thousands of visitors to the town of Lagoa.

Fisherman's Beach - Armação de Pêra

Armação de Pêra was originally a small fishing village where tuna used to be caught and brought up onto "Fisherman’s Beach". The net that the fishermen used to catch the Tuna in was called "Armação" and as it is very close to "Pêra", the village was named Armaçao de Pêra.

Fishing continues to be an important local activity and local fishermen can still be seen mending their nets on the beach of Armacao de Pera, selling their catch to the local market, and during the summer months they will take holidaymakers for a trip along the coastline to see the fascinating rock formations, caves and grottos
