Chimneys of the Algarve

Chimneys are one of the Algarves' symbols, providing clear evidence of the influence of the region’s five centuries of occupation by the Moors.

An architectural and ornamental legacy that is to be found in most of the towns and cities of southern Portugal and is clearly visible in the layout of their narrow streets, in the structure of the houses and in the minaret-like appearance of the chimneys that adorn the rooftops.

Mostly white the chimneys of the Algarve have a variety of shapes and decorations, ranging from simple grooves to more complicated and beautiful lacework patterns, or the miniature representation of clock towers or houses. Generally the chimneys were built for decorative purposes. The proof of this being the fact that country houses generally had two chimneys, in a region where the climatic conditions could barely justify this.

A Golfers Poem by Helen

Calling all golfers from over the sea -
Play golf with the Garbe, It’s the place to be!

As you sit there at home with the wind and the snow,
Click on our site for a warm rosy glow

We offer a service that’s second to none,
If you’re part of a group then your worries are gone.
Flexible, friendly, we aim to please
With golf for all levels to play with ease.
We’ll fix you a programme to suit your style
As much or as little, it just takes a short while.

May be you’re a couple with a handicap aim
Needing some help to improve your game?
Whatever your needs, we aim to please
So forget the others and book with ease.

There are no silly gimmicks to entice you in
We just keep it simple, watch and you’ll grin.
We offer good value right from the start
That’s a promise we make & it comes from the heart.

Hypnosis Presentation

Time: 19.00hrs - Cost: 15 euros

Have you ever wondered how hypnosis works?

Would you like to be more motivated, focused or relaxed in all you do?

As you read this will you find your curiosity growing?

Tony Westwood, International Speaker, Hypnotist and Golf Professional has combined his years of experience from the golfing world and his understanding of hypnosis to create a unique learning experience for golfers everywhere.

You can begin to think yourself better by understanding how your mind actually works.

When you buy a computer it comes with a manual in many languages to help you understand how the computer works.

The computer in your head is many, many more times powerful than any computer ever created by man and no one has ever been given a user manual for their brain. These workshops will help you understand how to control your thinking on and off the golf course by learning how your conscious and unconscious minds actually communicate.

To find out how you can attend a workshop and learn more call:00 (351) 910 960 464 or e-mail

Last Fridays' Murder Mystery Dinner

Hollywood party puzzle

The second in a series of Murder Mystery dinners took place at Hotel Garbe last week.

The scenario was a glittering party held at Silver Screen City where world-renowned film director, Samuel O’Snuffit, was shot. Following the dramatic murder, all of the party guests are possible suspects. Several participants at Hotel Garbe were clever enough to be able to unravel the intriguing plot and identify the culprit.

There is another opportunity to take part in this Silver Screen Murder Mystery when it is repeated on Thursday February 13th. Participants cross-question each other during dinner; a three-course Indian meal served with wine and coffee.

Trying to detect the murderer is a complex process since it turns out the film director had many enemies and all of them were at the party. The various roles are allocated in advance so that people can dress up accordingly. Three of the more illustrious characters are the actress Losta Morales, the starlet Fanny Chez Longe and the matinee idol, Clark Crumpet. Prizes are awarded for costumes and staying in role throughout the evening.

Large groups of friends, as well as people who don’t know each other, come together determined to solve the mystery. A great deal of amusement is generated and funds are raised for the registered animal charity APPA. Donations from the ticket price of 29 euros are used to benefit unwanted animals in the Algarve.

To book a table and receive a role, telephone Hotel Garbe on: - 282 320 260
Location: - On the seafront at Armação de Pêra where there is ample parking
